Rehabilitation For Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Pain Management

Technology for the rehabilitation of mental health, chemical dependency & pain management should be conversant with Behavioral Health methods, but additionally abreast of advances in Brain Sciences e.g., neuroscience.  Failure of the rehabilitation treating "experts" to be abreast of cutting edge technology produces risk of reduced positive outcome in the therapeutic setting.  Lets take an example from auto repair to make the point.  If an auto mechanic is attempting to work on the engine of a modern vehicle and limited or no knowledge about electronic controls (e.g., computer) they are high likely to fail and may damage the engine or it's electronic's. In the above example human rehabilitation efforts (therapeutic) without knowledge of Brain Sciences (neuroscience) related to the particular dysfunction leaves treatment open to an "expert" without the ability to understand or deploy technology related to of the brains self-control and self-management functions, i.e., Executive Brain Functions.   Lets take one small example Mindsets are ways of thinking about our behavior and even the goals we pursue in our and personal lives– i.e., can determine our successes and failures. They influence how we understand our own experiences in the world around us and determine the nature of our emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and neural responses to those experiences.  Rehabilitation attempts without knowledge of  the powerful impact of Mindsets have on performance, learning, self-regulation, self-control, neural processing, and resilience may well have limited success, i.e., produce a revolving door (i.e., constant return to a therapeutic setting) for the individual in treatment .
